  University/Agency Child Welfare Research Partnerships
Toolkit Available

The Institute for the Advancement of Social Work Research(IASWR) is pleased to announce the availability of the Report and Toolkit, Strengthening University/Agency Partnerships to Enhance Child Welfare Outcomes: A Toolkit for Building Research Partnerships. It is a result of an inter-organizational initiative undertaken with support and technical assistance from Casey Family Programs (CFP). The initiative examined strategies, resources and technical assistance needed to promote strong child welfare research partnerships between universities and state or county public agencies. The report:

  1. Identifies existing strategies that result in effective partnerships and attributes to guide successful endeavors.
  2. Highlights practical strategies to strengthen child welfare research partnerships between universities and public child welfare agencies.
  3. Provides guidance to address sticky issues that often bog down such partnerships and identifies common technical assistance needs.
  4. Identifies examples of research centers
  5. Identifies sources of funding and gaps in funding.
  6. Recommends national, state level and university action steps that can be taken to build and sustain child welfare research partnerships.

This project was made possible with support and technical assistance from CASEY FAMILY PROGRAMS in keeping with its 2020 Vision TO REDUCE THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN IN FOSTER CARE BY HALF AND TO ENHANCE THE OUTCOMES FOR THOSE WHO MUST REMAIN IN CARE.

This Web resource, which is partially funded by a contract with NIMH, seeks to promote the integration of evidence-based mental health treatments into social work education and research.  The Evidence-Based Practice Resources section provides tools that can be used to identify EBPs, online resources that can inform the EBP process and a list of publications for further information. The Partnership Examples section highlights some existing partnerships created between researchers and practitioners that further EBP. Finally, the Upcoming EBP Events section highlights upcoming conferences, workshops and training opportunities for EBP.

The Institute for the Advancement of Social Work Research (IASWR) responded to a request from the NIH Transition Team to provide recommendations on priorities for NIH in the new administration.  Click Here to find IASWR’s recommendations related to addressing behavioral and social sciences research, enhancing social work research invisibility and capacity, expanding opportunities to train a diverse scientific workforce and ensuring that translational research includes strategies for implementation in real world settings.

  Partnerships to Integrate Evidence-Based
Mental Health Practices into Social
Work Education and Research

On April 12, 2007 the National Institute of Mental Health hosted a symposium, Partnerships to Integrate Evidence-Based Mental Health Practices Into Social Work Education and Research, that brought together social work leaders, academic innovators in teaching evidence-based mental health practice, and representatives of other federal agencies, national organizations and consumers. The Institute for the Advancement of Social Work Research scanned the field in advance of the symposium to identify efforts already underway to teach evidence-based mental health practices and to promote partnerships between social work education programs and mental health providers. IASWR developed this report that details the symposium presentations, the conclusions and the suggested next steps. A brief summary of highlights is also available.
