Drug Courts originated in Florida as an alternative to incarceration for non-violent drug offenders. The Drug Court concept has spread nationwide due the proven success of these court-monitored drug treatment programs. Drug Court consists of one judge and one treatment center who work together to help participants achieve sobriety, monitor client progress, and prevent criminal recidivism. Southern California Alcohol & Drug Programs’ Drug Court was contracted in 1997 (funded by the L.A. County Alcohol & Drug Program Administration) to serve defendants referred and supervised by Southeast Regional Courts.
