Established in March, 1982, this program consists of a three month long court-referred Driving Under the Influence program of alcohol/drug education, individual and group counseling and mandatory participation in 12 Step support groups. In January, 1992, the "per se" law governing DUI arrests was changed -- now, all persons arrested for first offense driving under the influence lose their driver's license upon arrest. They are given a 45 day temporary license during which time they must address the issue through the court and the DMV. Only upon successful completion of the court-ordered first offender program can the driver’s license can be re-issued.
