Owen County Learning Network

Adult Literacy

Literacy is the ability to understand written language.

The Adult Literacy Network helps bring functional literacy to the many community members who want or need to improve their reading and writing skills.

The Adult Literacy Network offers free, one-to-one confidential basic literacy tutoring by trained volunteers for members of the community.

Think about it...reading signs, following a recipe, reading a story to your child, understanding a medicine label, and enjoying a good book. For most of us, these are everyday activites that we do without thinking. For those with limited reading skills, "simple" tasks are everyday struggles.

The Owen County Learning Network will train and support volunteer tutors. Materials developed by ProLiteracy America will be central to traning. Roundtable discussions, consultations, and published materials will be available for volunteers.

Please consider becoming a volunteer tutor.
