Runaway & Homeless Youth Shelter

 
 Goals:  
To successfully refer every Crisis Hotline caller to the organization/agency that meets his/her immediately need(s).
To take care of the basic needs of five thousand and two hundred (5200) persons per year in a 14-day program at the 20-bed temporary shelter.
To provide transitional living services to two hundred and forty-eight (248) person per year in a 8-Week program at the 12-bed Transitional Living House.
To teach each client to examine his/her motivations and behaviors, to marshal facts rationally and positively, to make informed decisions, to face conflicts (not evade them), and to accept the consequences of their actions.
To enhance interpersonal skills and self-esteem, so that each individual can handle conflict and maintain relationship.
To help residents develop constructive approaches to their family situations.
To enhance the ability to maintain jobs.
To increase educational levels.
To enable each resident of the Transitional Living Program to live on his/her own.
To minimize the gang related crimes perpetrated by homeless/disadvantage youth.


 Services:  
Crisis intervention referrals.
Housing, food, clothing, health care referrals, case management, and counseling.
Quality relationships with case managers and other staff, as well as with employers, mentors, teachers, family, friends, and other members of the community.
Job training to facility stable employment in entry-level positions with growth potential that reflect individual needs, interests, and abilities, with on-the-job support.
Solid educational opportunities based on resident’s specific needs and interests.
Instruction in independent living skills-money management, house-cleaning and laundry, cooking, and decision making.
Counseling, or mental health referral, as necessary.
Weekly groups facilitated by a trained specialist.
Drug and HIV awareness Seminars.
