Northern Nevada Infant Toddler Loaner Hearing Aid Program:

A program that provides loaner hearing aids for children aged birth to three who are waiting for insurance or Medicaid to provide their permenant hearing aids. Speech and language development is so critical during this time frame. If a child needing hearing amplification can receive it before the age of 6 months, the less likely that child is to need speech and language development services later, including special education classes when he/she enters the school district program. This program helps to ensure that children diagnosised through Nevada Early Intervention Services as needing hearing amplification receive it in a timely manner.

Thank you to Reno Host Lions Club for their generous founding donation.

Northern Northern Nevada Infant Toddler Assistive Equipment Lending Program:

Children receiving a medical diagnosis that requires assistive technology often have to wait weeks if not months for their insurance company or Medicaid to provide the equipment. This equipment might be walkers, strollers, therapeutic benches, bumbo chairs, etc. This program helps to eliminate the wait time.

Children currently diagnosised through Nevada Early Intervention Services quailfy to receive temporary assistive equipment while wiating for their permenant equipment to arrive. If families do not have access to assistive equipment when their child requires it, other issues can develop such as behaviorial issues due to frustration from lack of mobility, isolation because proper assistive gear is not available so that the parent and child can more easily leave their home and further delays in development.

Thank you to Care Chest for your significant donation to this program.

Diaper Bank:

Helping Nevada Early Intervention families who are experiencing a financial crisis provide diapers for their children. Facts:

A healthy change of diapers costs up to $100 a month - for all ages. Medicare, WIC and Food Stamps do not cover diapers. Diaper manufacturers do not donate diapers unless you have had quadruplets or more and can get them PR. Cloth is also not an option. Childcare centers require parents to leave disposable diapers with their child. Child care costs are subsidized, but there are no subsidized for diapers.

A typical infant uses up to 10 diapers a day, a typical toddler 6 a day. But when a family experiences a financial hardship and can not afford to purchase diapers, a baby may be in a single diaper all day or longer, increasing the risk of health problems, from skin diseases to hepatitis. A baby crying non-stop from being in a soiled diaper for a prolonged time is more likely to be abused.

Thank you to the Fernley American Legion for their generous donation of Diapers and their financial support.

Annual Summer Picnic and Holiday Party:

Each year we host an annual summer party and a holiday party. These are fun events where families can socialize, have fun together and network with other famlies.
