It was an impressive gathering of decision makers that made our heads whirl and whose presence validated the importance of the work at hand. My sincere appreciation to the committee members who made our concept a reality: - Jeanne Reynolds for brilliantly suggesting and securing our inspiring speaker who attracted the amazing attendance; to Margo Walbolt and her staff who helped to plan and implement the event and who carried the message to Mayor Hibbard, City Council members and City Management about the continued importance of the city's role in support of its schools; to Dr. Anne Cooper and her staff who graciously hosted the breakfast at their newly renovated visual arts complex at the SPC/Clearwater Campus; and to Kay Campbell who brought the important message about the PCAC Teacher Incentive Grant Program to the attention of the principals.
Our speaker June Hinckley encouraged principals "to find ways to do things right" in support of the children in our schools and to strive to make each school a "great" school. One in which there are engaged learners, caring and competent teachers and where engaged and challenging learning takes place for all children. She stressed the importance of community support for arts education and noted that just as the arts are about solving problems, she challenged the principals to solve problems in "artful" ways, to apply rules in new ways to gain an arts advantage in their school as they prepare students for work and life. Maria Cantonis, Chair, CAF Education Committee
Margo, it was a wonderful event! Great credit goes to you and your staff for all the planning and implementation as well as to Anne and her staff at SPC. The entire event from the table decorations to the food to June's warm and wonderful address sends a clear message that support for arts education is a powerful force in our community! Congratulations to everyone who made it happen! Kay Campbell, Pinellas County Arts Council
Great job and thanks to Maria Cantonis and the CAF Board and especially those who were able to attend. Nancy Loehr, Progress Energy
Ditto. My comment as well. Extremely well done and an excellent event. Thanks to all that made this possible. Robert A. Freedman, President & CEO, Ruth Eckerd Hall, PACT Inc.
I found this the best breakfast meeting yet and your summary of June's words need to be published throughout the county. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of such a great team of people. Joyce B. Wehner, Marcia P. Hoffman Perf. Arts Institute
Teachers Resource Packet
The Teachers Resource Packet is a tool to help connect Clearwater teachers and artists to provide the highest quality arts experiences for students through performances and artist residencies in the schools.
The tool includes information on planning, sources for possible funders, suggested questions to ask potential artists, and evaluation forms.
This resource is a result of the arts education goal of Clearwater’s Cultural Plan, which was embraced by Clearwater City Commission in November 2002. Other goals include stimulating local cultural development, creating a public art and design program, enhancing and cultivating opportunities for the community to participate in the arts, lifelong learning through the arts, and stimulating economic development.
The Teachers’ Resource Packet was created by Clearwater Arts Foundation’s Arts Education Committee, which has representatives from the Pinellas County School System, Pinellas County Arts Council, Ruth Eckerd Hall, The Florida Orchestra, Dunedin Fine Arts Center, Dundu Dole, St. Petersburg College, Clearwater Cultural Affairs Division, and members of the community.
“This is an absolutely wonderful partnership," said Jeanne Reynolds, who is the Music and Theater Supervisor for Pinellas County School System and a member of the Arts Education Committee.
