GENERAL ASSIGNMENT REPORTER, CBS 2 CHICAGO
 
Rafael Romo serves as a general assignment reporter for CBS 2 Chicago. Romo joined CBS 2 from Univision's WGBO-TV in Chicago.  He began work at the station on March 5, 2004.  Romo had worked as weekend anchor and lead reporter for WGBO-TV from 1997-2003.  He also served as a fill-in anchor during the week.  He has covered several noteworthy news events in recent years for Chicago’s Hispanic community including the Pope's visit to Mexico City and President Vicente Fox's visit to Chicago in 2001.  Before working in Chicago, Romo worked at KTVW-TV in Phoenix, Ariz. (1993-97), first as a writer before being promoted to news anchor and reporter.  Romo began his broadcasting career in radio at KVVA-AM (1993), and KPHX-AM (1990), both located in Phoenix.  He won a local Emmy Award for his work on CBS 2’s 2005 broadcast of the LaSalle Bank Chicago Marathon.  Romo was born and raised in Cananea, Mexico.  He came to the United States when he was 18 years old to attend college.  Romo graduated from Arizona State University with a B.A. in Broadcasting.
