HIV/AIDS OUTREACH & EDUCATION PROJECT
Centro Romero’s HIV/AIDS Outreach and Education project has been developed to increase the awareness of HIV/AIDS in the Latino community in the Northside of Chicago. Through Education we give the community the opportuniy to access information on the latest facts of HIV and other STD’s. The youth are a very important part of our effort. They come to a six-week training where they learn all the facts about HIV and later teach these facts to high school students, sport clubs, and other places where the youth get together.
The program also offers:
- HIV / AIDS & STD’s community presentations: we provide presentations for groups of 20 or more people about the epidemic of the HIV/AIDS. These are intended for the community and for the ESL students at Centro Romero.
- HIV peer education training: Training for youth groups of 15 and more in HIV and STD’s as well as leadership and communications skills .
- HIV free and confidential testing: We offer HIV and some STD’s free and confidential testing once a month.
