Cuarto Centenario Celebration
October 2009 to August 2010
The City of Santa Fe was founded in 1610 and the first church in Santa Fe was constructed in the same year and thus was established the first and oldest continuously active Chritsian congregation in the entire United States. The community and parishioners are celebrating El Cuarto Centenario, 400 years of spiritual service to La Villa Real de la Santa Fe de San Francisco de Asis and the greater southwest.
Cuarto Centenario
Roman numeral 400 is represented by the letters "CD". The letters are shaped as a heart. "Celebration del Corazon" is the motto for this celebration of the heart. Our Christianity is represented by the golden cross. The backdrop is the imposing rose window at the front of the Cathedral.
Our patron, St. Francis of Assisi releases the Dove of Peace, symbolic of his love for animals; also of the Holy Spirit. At center bottom is the cross of St. James, Santiago, used by the colonists at the establishment of the Church in 1610.
