That is an excellent example of a later childhood experience, one outside the bracket of early childhood. It illustrates how we can adopt styles of relating to others based on profound impact of childhood experiences nonetheless. When we have an experience like this one, we can learn to be more self-sufficient, which is both good and bad. The downside can be that it makes it more difficult for us to trust God (see the thread on The Exchanged Life discussion.)
