That is probably true of most people but I had one daughter that changed when she went to Jr. High. She was the third child -- all girls -- very sweet, meek, compliant. The first few day of Jr. High she was beaten up and had her lunch money taken from her by a gang of girls. She asked her dominating older sister what to do about it, followed her advice, and no one ever bothered her again. From that day on she was more assertive, less compliant, and less afraid. She fought more with her sisters too. She became a "take charge" kind of person which has helped her in her careers.
