ABOUT US

Beacon Ministries, Foreign Missions in Haiti, is a non profit, charitable organization, formed for the sole purpose of helping the people of Haiti. The need in Haiti is huge, and if you look at the whole problem, it can be overwhelming.  The first time we went we realized that the need was great and we couldn't imagine being of any use to these people.   We asked "Lord, what can we possibly do that would be enough?"  And He answered and said " You just love them and I will do the rest."
Our job there is to: EDIFY, ENCOURAGE and ENABLE.

" Therefore encourage one another and edify one another... get to know those who labor among you...and hold them in very high and most affectionate esteem in appreciation of their work.  Be at peace among yourselves."                               ( 1 Thessalonians 5:11-13 )

The Haitian people are just like us, moms and dads working hard to try to provide for their kids, they just don't have any means to do so.  They can't sign up for food stamps or assistance from welfare when the hurricanes wipe out their fruit trees or the floods wash away their meager gardens. They have no where to turn for help.

Most people in Haiti do not eat every day and it is not unusual to go for days between meals. Parents literally watch their children starve to death and are powerless to prevent it.  They fear any kind of illness because if a child gets sick they will most certainly die because the medicine is just not available to them

They are smart, loving beautiful people who need our help.

They don't need our ideas, they need us to help them with theirs.

" For the needy shall not always be forgotten, and the expectation and hope of the meek and poor shall not perish forever."                                                ( Psalm 9: 18 )

We have joined together with O.P.K.P (An Association of Countrymen)village pastors and church leadership who have devoted their lives to helping the people.  They can direct us to the most urgent needs and give us information about what is needed and where.

" For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me and I was in prison and you came to me."                                                                        ( Matthew 25: 35-36 )

We are a team of two people, Neil and Barbara Yates, who make regular trips to Haiti. We raise funds here in the United States and Canada to go directly into the ministry.  All of our travel expenses and administratiive costs are paid separately, so that all donations go directly into the projects.  100% of donations are used for the purpose and project it is given to.  We hold speaking engagements and do slideshow (powerpoint) presentations to show pictures and tell the stories of the plight of these people.  We write letters and make phone calls to find items we need and get information. We read and talk and listen to anyone or anything that has information to help us learn what we need to know to keep moving forward. We will go anywhere and do whatever it takes to accomplish the cause that we have undertaken

Our home church ( River of Life Fellowship ) is also overwhelming in it's support to this ministry.  They provide partnership and spiritual cover.  We are currently developing training materials for future "teams" and work crews to accompany us on the trips.  Pastor Henry and Martha Schick are members of our Board of Directors.

WE GIVE THEM HOPE FOR TOMORROW IN ADDITION TO PROVISION FOR TODAY

" Behold, the Lord's eye is upon those who fear Him, who wait for Him and hope in his mercy and loving-kindness to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine."

                                                                                                                            ( Psalm 33:18-19 )

We represent Jesus to these people and we may be the only ones who will tell them about the only true hope of a better life, now and for eternity.

" My soul, wait only upon God and silently submit to Him; for my hope and expectation are from Him."   ( Psalm 62:5 )
