Dr. Charlotte Hutton is a child and adolescent psychiatrist and medical director of Canal Street Counseling, LLC in New Orleans, Louisiana. She is board certified in General Psychiatry.
Dr. Hutton is the Vice President of Clinical Services in New Orleans for the All Healers Mental Health Alliance, a collaborative of secular and faith-based behavioral health providers addressing emotional responses in the aftermath of disaster since September 11, 2001. She is also member at large for the American Association of Community Psychiatry.
Dr. Hutton moved to Louisiana in May of 2005 as the Associate Clinical Director of New Orleans Adolescent Hospital after 14 years in Massachusetts first in post-medical school training and subsequent work in the private and public sector behavioral health including long-term care.
Two months after Hurricane Katrina, along with 15 members of the outpatient staff established school-based emotional support services and community based mental health services for children and their families in Southeast Louisiana. More than 800 children and their families were served by the agency in the first year after the storm.
Dr. Hutton has been a consultant to the Children’s Defense Fund, the Recovery School District, LA-YES, and the Office of Mental Health for the State of Louisiana. She has served on the State Board of Pharmacy and Therapeutics for the Office of Mental Health as a representative for child psychopharmacology. She has been a lecturer on cultural competence, medical ethics, multidisciplinary services and service integration since the storm.
Dr. Hutton’s work has been cited in the Psychiatric Times of the American Psychiatric Association, City Business in New Orleans and the Second Anniversary of Katrina’s Children, a state of the mental health condition of children for the Children’s Defense Fund (CDF). She sits on CDF’s Katrina Citizens Leadership Corps.
Currently, Dr. Hutton also provides mental health services for EXCELth, Inc., the Office of Community Services for the State of Louisiana, and Louisiana Youth Enhancement services.
